About the Role

This is an opportunity to work at the absolute "edge" of WordPress scale, defining the engineering standards for a global publishing giant. In this role, you will engineer the core editorial experience for newsrooms managing millions of articles and reaching tens of millions of concurrent users. Your mission is to build custom, high-performance Gutenberg tools that allow journalists to produce breaking news at lightning speed.

Most Important

• Expert-level proficiency in React and TypeScript, with a deep understanding of hooks and the Gutenberg data stores.
• Proven track record of building custom Native Blocks from scratch using the editand savefunctions (no ACF or page builders).
• Mastery of modern, OOP-based PHP (7.4/8.x) and WordPress internal APIs (REST API, Metadata, WP_Query).
• Experience with advanced state management using the @wordpress/datamodule for complex editorial states and asynchronous data fetching.
• Ability to optimize PHP render callbacks and implement fragment caching (Transients/Redis) for sub-second load times under extreme traffic.
• Hands-on experience with Docker-based environments (Lando/Nitro) and CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, CircleCI).
• Experience authoring code that exceeds the rigorous security and performance standards of the WordPress VIP ecosystem.

Nice to Have

• Experience implementing Unit Testing (Jest/PHPUnit) and E2E Testing (Cypress/Playwright) for critical publishing flows.
• Familiarity with enterprise media integrations such as Brightcove Video and Akamai/Cloudflare caching.
• Exposure to Headless or Hybrid WordPress architectures.
• Active contributions to WordPress Core or management of high-traffic Open Source plugins.
