Position Overview

We’re looking for a Senior QA Engineer to join our fully remote team and help deliver a reliable, high-quality experience in our SaaS platform. At this level, test automation is a core competency and focus — you write and maintain complex automated tests daily, own test strategy for your product area, and are expanding into API and performance testing.

Senior QA Engineers are defined by abstract thinking — the ability to zoom out to see the full picture and zoom back in to specific issues. You lead quality outcomes for your team, mentor mid-level and junior engineers, approve code reviews, and enforce testing standards. You don’t just execute — you shape how your team approaches quality.

This is an automation-focused role where AI co-pilots are required tools. You’ll engage with developers during the design phase to catch issues early and take a holistic view of quality from initial requirements through deployment and beyond.

What You’ll Do

Quality & Test Automation

  • Write and maintain complex UI automation tests using our Playwright/TypeScript framework, following and enforcing established standards (Page Object Model, Constants pattern, Allure reporting)
  • Independently write complex end-to-end test scenarios covering multiple user flows and system integrations
  • Own test strategy for your product area — define what to test, how to test it, and the level of coverage needed based on risk analysis
  • Lead API testing for your product area — you are an expert in designing and implementing API-level test suites, service contract validation, and integration testing, working closely with software engineers on this shared layer.
  • Performance testing — identify performance-critical workflows, establish baselines, and create automated performance validations
  • Support security testing practices — participate in security-focused test reviews and contribute to identifying security risks in your product area
  • Proactively use observability tools and production monitoring — leverage telemetry, logs, and alerting to identify quality signals, inform test priorities, and catch issues before they escalate to customers
  • Lead exploratory testing efforts, applying expert-level manual testing instincts — exploratory, risk-based, and session-based techniques — to uncover systemic quality risks, not just individual bugs; use that expertise to inform automation decisions
  • Approve code reviews for automation tests, enforcing best practices, maintainability, and team standards
  • Debug and resolve test infrastructure issues across environments, platforms, and system layers
  • Refactor and improve existing automation for better maintainability, reliability, and execution speed
  • Drive quality metrics and measurements aligned with team goals; identify and close coverage gaps in functional and non-functional automation
  • Lead test triage and stabilization efforts — own the process of identifying, prioritizing, and resolving test failures
  • Integrate and optimize tests within CI/CD pipelines, improving feedback cycle times and pipeline reliability
  • Take a holistic view of quality across the entire development lifecycle, from design through deployment and production monitoring

Collaboration & Leadership

  • Mentor mid-level and junior QA engineers on automation best practices, testing strategies, and career development
  • Become a deep subject matter expert for your team’s domain — your platform knowledge informs both testing and product decisions
  • Provide technical leadership in requirement reviews — identify risks early and help shape how features are built and tested
  • Define test strategies and coverage approaches in collaboration with engineering and product
  • Share knowledge broadly through documentation, demos, team presentations, and contributions to team standards
  • Influence quality outcomes beyond your immediate team — bring platform-level thinking to cross-team initiatives, architectural reviews, and QA Guild contributions; own outcomes across teams, not just within your product area
  • Serve as a Code Owner within the Neutrino automation framework

Technology Stack You’ll Use

  • Test Framework: Playwright with TypeScript
  • Language: TypeScript (ES2022)
  • API Testing: REST API validation, service contract testing
  • Performance Testing: Performance benchmarking tools and automated performance validation
  • Reporting: Automation Reporting (general)
  • CI/CD: GitHub Actions (integration, optimization, and pipeline reliability)
  • Version Control: Git/GitHub
  • AI Tools: GitHub Copilot and custom AI assistants

What We’re Looking For

Core QA Skills

  • 5-8+ years of experience in software quality assurance or quality engineering for web applications, with demonstrated ability to own quality outcomes independently
  • Abstract thinking — you can zoom out to assess systemic quality risks at the platform level and zoom in to diagnose specific issues at the code or environment level; your scope extends across teams, not just your product area
  • Business impact awareness — you connect quality outcomes to business impact, understand the cost of defects, communicate risk in terms stakeholders care about, and factor business context into testing priorities
  • Strong organizational and time management skills — you establish due dates and approaches for assignments, demonstrating project management capability
  • Excellent communication skills — you articulate quality risks to technical and non-technical stakeholders, connect defects to business impact, and mentor others effectively
  • Critical thinking and proactive mindset — you anticipate problems across the development lifecycle, identify risks before they materialize, and drive preventive quality practices
  • Risk-based testing methodology — you prioritize test coverage based on business impact, likelihood of failure, and technical complexity
  • Holistic approach to quality — you understand how testing integrates across the entire software development process and influence quality at every stag

Technical & Automation Skills

  • Automation is a core competency — you write, maintain, and improve automated tests independently and set the standard for others
  • Expert-level manual testing — strong foundation in exploratory, risk-based, and session-based testing techniques; you apply these instincts to guide automation strategy and surface issues automated tests miss
  • Proficient in TypeScript/JavaScript with the ability to write, debug, refactor, and review complex test automation code
  • Deep experience with Playwright or another modern test automation framework
  • API testing expertise — you have hands-on experience designing and implementing API-level test suites (REST, service contracts, data validation); this is an existing strength, not a learning area
  • Security testing awareness — familiarity with common security vulnerabilities (OWASP basics), ability to contribute to security-focused test reviews and flag risks in your product area
  • Performance testing fundamentals — understanding of performance testing concepts, ability to identify performance-critical workflows, and experience with benchmarking or load testing tools
  • Strong understanding of web application architecture: HTML/DOM, CSS, browser APIs, networking, and how frontend and backend interact
  • CI/CD pipeline expertise — you can design, optimize, and troubleshoot test pipelines in GitHub Actions
  • Proficient with version control (Git) — comfortable with branching strategies, resolving conflicts, and managing complex PR workflows
  • Understanding of different environments and deployment processes; ability to diagnose environment-specific issues
  • AI co-pilots are a core part of your workflow. You leverage AI assistants to accelerate test creation, debugging, and code review

Leadership & Mentoring

  • Demonstrated experience mentoring or coaching less experienced engineers
  • Ability to provide constructive, specific code review feedback that helps others grow
  • Comfort serving as a technical point of contact for your team’s quality decisions
  • Track record of identifying and recommending process improvements
  • Willingness to share knowledge through documentation, presentations, and pairing sessions

Why You’ll Love Working Here

  • AI-accelerated workflows — AI-powered tools help you focus on strategic quality decisions rather than boilerplate
  • Technical ownership — you’ll own test strategy for your product area, not just execute someone else’s plan
  • Expanding scope — grow into API testing, performance testing, and cross-team quality initiatives
  • Mentorship impact — directly shape the growth of mid-level and junior engineers
  • Well-documented standards — comprehensive documentation and established patterns you’ll help evolve
  • Modern tooling and practices — work with cutting-edge tools and AI-assisted test generation
